Movie review: Free Birds

Voices: Woody Harrelson , Owen Wilson, Amy Poehler

The story in brief:

Reggie (Wilson) the turkey was always different from the rest of the flock. For one thing, he actually realised turkeys were being bred for Thanksgiving dinner!

A stroke of luck sees him pardoned by the President of the United States though, and he is taken to Camp David, where he lives a comfortable life of pizza and soap operas. On the other hand, Jake (Harrelson) is the only member of the Turkeys Liberation Front, hell-bent on travelling back in time to stop Thanksgiving, or at least prevent turkeys from being on the menu!

Not something Reggie wants to give up his cushy life for of course, but after Jake kidnaps him, they end up stumbling upon a top secret time-machine and do end up going back in time – just before the first Thanksgiving! Destiny? Or dumb luck? Either way, Reggie is in way over his head…

This is definitely a film for the kiddies, but I do believe adults will get some laughs out of this too. I mean, it’s a essentially a cartoon about turkeys going all Braveheart on humans. What’s not to like?
